The 1940 Harley Knucklehead for sale in Connecticut was originally restored in 2006 by an extremely well-known Midwest vintage Harley restoration artist. And this 1940 Harley Davidson EL Knucklehead is indeed a work of art with a Special Sport Solo and 61 OHV Big Twin.

This magnificent vintage Harley received an additional upgraded level of restoration in 2009 and is now one of the finest examples of a properly restored 40 EL in the United States.

Even before it was restored it was an amazingly original 40 EL that was discovered in essentially complete condition and retains its original unmolested frame and front fork, complete matched case engine, all the important 1-year only parts and all original sheet metal.

The tanks, fenders, motor guard, chain guard, 18 inch wheels, brakes, lights, bars, , horn, speedo, cats eyes, etc. are all original except for the correct gas caps and reproduction air cleaner .

The 1940 Harley Knucklehead's restored engine starts and runs easily and entire drive train runs strong and smooth. The bars are original early model brazed Hollywood bars.

Using the Palmer III book as a base guide for correctness in the restoration process, several AMCA judges from around the country were called in for a consultation to review and comment on every part and finish on this machine. Their comments were taken into consideration and several improvements were made including locating, restoring and installing minor parts and correcting certain finishes, completing the restoration to high level of quality and standards that it exhibits today.

This 1940 Harley Knucklehead for sale was featured in 2009 at the Harley Davidson Motor Company Museum "Wall of Fame" photo collection. In September 2009 it received the prestigious "First In Class Historically Significant Motorcycle award at the Fairfield Concours d'Elegance in Fairfield, Connecticut. This Knucklehead is registered and titled in Connecticut.
