THE HISTORY of the 750 HONDAMATIC MOTORCYCLE

For you motorcycle trivia buffs, here's a few tidbits pertaining to the history of the 750 Hondamatic motorcycle. The (Honda) Hondamatic CB750A is a type of Honda motorcycle that has no clutch, but does have a wet sump, a parking brake and a torque converter. The motorcycle's transmission requires that one of two gears must be selected by the rider. But the torque converter eliminates the need for a clutch.

1976 green hondamatic 750
by: Kirby

This bike as described as an automatic motorcycle but you still shift gears. Mine has 2 gears and some have 3 gears. The difference is that there is no clutch to shift with, simply throttle back and change gears.

You can still find this bike, the red or blue ones, on Kijiji every once in a while for around the $1000 to $2500 price range.

The really rare one are the green ones manufactured from 1976 where the only sold for one year and nobody like the color green on it so alot where scrapped for parts making it very rare.

owned one
by: Mike J.

I owned one of these from 1989-1991. Bought it in Jacksonville, FL, from the Honda dealer, sold it in Pensacola. I liked the bike and for a long time now I have wished that I hadn't sold it. I needed the money to go to college another semester w/o getting a job. The money helped but I missed the bike. The Hondamatic had two speeds, Low and High. It drove like a car reversing your hands and feet. Your hand holds the brake and pulls the gas then your feet shift the gear low-high-neutral. Low got up to about 25mph then you reduce the throttle just a bit before pull up your foot to get High gear. In Jacksonville a police officer mistook the bright blue High gear indicator for high beam light and thought I was driving at night with the high beam on in the city, so I showed him how it works on a Hondamatic. It also has a backup kick starter that stores the kick pedal under the seat. Helpful when the battery died. Neat bike!

1976 Hondamatic 750
by: Kirby

I have the 1976 Hondamatic 750 in green that's all original with only 15,000 on it. These old bikes are very rare now and are very easy to ride.

If you find one that's all original it is easily worth $9000. LOL The ones with the green paint color are the most rare since nobody wanted to buy them when they were first released. Since they were so undesirable at the time a huge number of them were sold as scrap.

This bike looks great and I would really like to own it.

I have been looking to buy a bike like it for quite some time (I am 53 years old) so I know that the Hondamatic has everything I've ever wanted in a motorcycle.

Is this one still for sale?
