THE STORY OF THE HARLEY BAD BOY

The Harley Davidson Bad Boy which was initially introduced in 1995 was based on the Harley-Softail Springer model. The difference was that it was cloaked in black from its front fender to its cleverly bobbed tail.

In this model, even pieces which were usually bright like the fork tubes, the under the seat oil tank and the instrument panel were blacked.
The only chrome left was the front coil springs, headlight, exhaust pipes, handlebars, and various pieces of trim.

Even though the Bad Boy's look was in the retro style, the technology was definitely modern.

Similar in concept to those used on Harley Davidisons through the 1940s, the Springer front forks had arrived with an updated design in 1988, and on the Harley Bad Boy, a multi-link arrangement was incorporated that allowed the fender to hug the 21-inch tire closer.

The frame looked rigid but was not. It was simply Harley's Softail design that incorporated a swingarm extending two shocks underneath the engine.

The Harley Davidson Bad Boy's power came from Harley's 80-cubic-inch Evo V-twin. Drilled disc brakes were featured both front and back.

The slotted rear wheel rather than being turned by a chain was turned by a toothed belt in the same fashion as other Harleys of the period.

Despite its obvious charm and sex appeal, the Bad Boy enjoyed a short life. Production of the Harley Davidson Bad Boy spanned only three short years. During those years, little in the basic design was changed other than the striping of the gas tank, which was available in yellow, blue, and red.
