BMW Motorcycles are Ugly

I don't want to offend anybody but BMW motorcycles are ugly. Those bikes are just PLAIN UGLY and that is the problem I have with them! I've read all the rave reviews from their owners and yes, I have taken note of all the positive remarks regarding their quiet yet efficient performance, but in the end my opinion stands at how unfortunate it is that BMW bikes are the ugliest bikes ever made.

That is just my opinion and I have kept it to myself a very long time but I'm starting the New Year with an attitude of sharing and honesty, so there you have it; BMW motorcycles are ugly. They may run great, but when it comes to looks they come up lacking.

Put them side by side with any other new or used motorcycles for sale in today's market and I'm sure you will see exactly what I'm talking about.

No doubt BMW is a wonderful machine but Lord with those foot warmers hanging out there what can you say? Have ridden all my life (67) and riding on something or driving in something of a thing of beauty is part of the experience. Believe me I have had an open mind to plunking the cash down but it is like pushing myself into marrying an ugly virgin who would adore and take care of me as no other woman would. Just cannot bite the bullet. The first time I saw one as a kid, it was like, what the heck? And I thought a Moto Guzzi motorcycles were ugly. BMW is #1 ugly and I still won't marry an ugly virgin-ha ha.

I drive a new BMW 320 (car) and it is truly a thing of beauty and is outstanding as far as performance is concerned. However, I have tried to like BMW bikes and have ridden them but I can't get past how dull and ugly they are.

Its like the BMW motorcycle line originated on another planet in that the design is SO far beneath their automobile line. They don't try to even give them any style at all! In fact BMW goes out of their way to ensure they look like a 1982 ford meteor on purpose. It is a shame that with such attention to detail with everything else that their bikes are just lacking.

Lets face it, if you ride a bike you are on show for all to see you may as well look the part.

no doubt...they really have gotten butt-ugly. love my old 1150 GS from 12 years ago...because they kept it raw and simple. NOW...all the two-tones and different color plastic parts...ESPECIALLY on the 2013 water-cooled GS 1200s. dear god...they look like farm boys who got dressed to go to the disco for the first time.

AMAZINGLY...i'd drop $20K on a new GS if they weren't SO ugly.

Nonsense with all this talk of boxers being the only true BMW. Some people create this nonsensical argument that they are the holder of something that only others can covet. Classic motorcycles are wonderful. So are new ones. Appreciate both and don't get caught up with engine types like you're in some elite club that others can only aspire to.

PS-since the twin was BMW's first motorcycle motor in the R32 in 1923, mny quess is yes they snub the single along with all water cooled motors such as yours!

Boris, Put more thought into your postings. I have a K1200GT and love boxers. I am in a BMW club and highly appreciate the heritage of the marque. Making blanket statements is just ignorant since a lot of BMW K bike owners own multiple BMW bikes that include boxers (airheads).

Anyone that buys a BMW K series bike has no clue or respect for BMW's flat twin/boxer heritage.

I’d like to point out the fact that BMW bikes aren’t often mistaken for anything other than a BMW, unlike many of the designs coming from other manufactures. Do we all need to be riding the equivalent of a ‘90’s Ford Taurus? Sheathed in as much style as a warn bar of soap?

BMW’s are designed with a different purpose, not to replicate the latest race winner, or beholden to a trademarked style of a by-gone era (Harley)…they are intended to be the instrument by which we explore the world astride two wheels with competence. I have to wonder if this guy is the type to circle office buildings with mirrored exteriors just so he can gaze at himself and his ride…

My ’85 K100 turbo Luftmeister lived up to its nickname of “The Flying Brick” like the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 it shares genealogy with, and embarrassing many “Pretty looking” bikes while receiving accolades along the way.

Have you seen Honda's new VFR? The fairing looks as if someone parked it too close to a space heater.

Personally, I think it's "butt-ugly." Yet someone else might perceive it as the "cat's meow!"

Therein lies the subjectivity of taste. Speaking of which, all you had to do to make your commentary more palatable is include the more agreeable entre' of "I think!"

Well, I will take the comment with a grain of salt. I like BMWs because they have so many designs to offer. You can really have it all. The engineering, the design you want, and the reliability. I have a 2003 K1200GT and the moment I laid eyes on it I had to have it. It was the most beautiful bike I had ever seen. It was also my first bike. Some say it's a lot of bike to have for your first one but I grew into it and will never get rid of it! What else can you ride all day with such little effort. Heated seats, grips, and ABS? It spoils me. I have ridden other bikes too and they all leave me asking- "where's my BMW!?" So, I am not here to say your opinion is wrong but rather to say- the statement sounds naive and childish. If you don't like them go buy a Prius or something else with 4 wheels. You obviously don't know much about bikes.

i must speak up,,my '86 K75 is considered one of the sexiest bikes of the 80's and 90's(barenaked and black)and when the 1200 hogs can't keep up it's really a shame(on them)it is a blast to ride,,i've had bikes of all sorts and BMW is the only bike out there(i did like my '69 triumph when it would start)but give your head a shake and pay attention,,if you look quickly you may see that bike whizzing by was a K1200 GT,,or the sound of that airhead hmmm...music,,,my buddy on his 1500 Intruder says it (K bike)sounds like a sewing machine and i say just try and keep up!! my k bike was lonely so I bought her a friend a '71 R75/5 (again barenaked and black)so for those that think these bikes are ugly,,,you're missing what riding is all about,,so sad..... Jeeves

If someone ASKED for your opinion about what you thought of the look of BMW motorcycles, I would understand your posting. But to just feel the need to get this off your chest is curious. Obviously lots of people find BMWs to be desirable, probably for more than just the looks of it. Like relationships, those that are based upon more than just appearances are the ones most likely to be fulfilling.

Maybe you have some closeted attraction to them that you don't understand. Therapy, I suggest therapy. Maybe then you will grow up.

I have a 1974 r75/6 I bought in 1984, put 80 k on it over the years - beautiful bike in my opinion. People comment on its striking pose regularly.

Just bought a 1983 R100RS in 10/2010. Another beauty but not as classic.

While there are other pretty bikes out there, hard to beat an old airhead.

New BMW ones are a little distant to me personally but so is most music from 1980 on.

I have a 2003 BMW R1200CLC and wouldn't trade it for anything! I had my eye on the most beautiful motorcycle that I ever saw for about a year and then bought it! As you can see from the photo, it's a beauty.

I have owned my 2003 R1200 CL since March and have put over 4000 miles on it. It is my dream bike and after riding and enjoying it for this many months my only wish is that the 4.5 gallon fuel tank was a bit larger.

In my opinion, motorcycles are like fine women, they are all different, unique and not everyone has the same tastes. With that thought in mind, I would never make the comment, "All red heads are ugly".

Whatever kind of bike the A hole has/had who made the comment that all BMW motorcycles are ugly, I wouldn't trade my BMW for it.

You sound like a 10 year old spoiled brat. You have little idea what is beautiful or not. If you are merely looking on the outside for beauty then you will be a very unhappy person in the end.
I have ridden BMW's since the early 70's. I still own a 1980r100rs that I bought in 1980. I've ridden it all over the U.S.A. and Mexico. I've put thousands and thousands of mile on it. It still runs and I could ride it anywhere without fear. That is real beauty.

There are no shortage of morons that will pick a sports team based on how much they like the uniforms, or the brilliant ones who pick a wife because she's so hot, only to regret it later. With some education you could see the beauty in quality engineering, the beauty in something as simple as fit and finish. Even the designers selection of hardware, simple nuts and bolts, it's all been thought out. it's not made up of a bunch of oil leaking, pre 70's and 80's component designs with a 2010 sticker on it.

I,ve been riding for 38 yrs I rode about every bike out there.I've beat on ricers. They just can't take the constant abuse that a beemer can handle. Better do your math about the BMW motorcycle because it can take anything you dish out.

Funny, from the time I was 15 I was riding street. First bike, a Honda 125, 2nd 350 scrambler, 3rd 450 Honda, 4th 750 Honda. When I was riding the 450 I used to ride with a friend who owned a BMW R50. He told me that I needed to get one cause it was the best. "That ugly thing, I wouldn't ride one of those if you gave it to me!" Man was I a dumbass!!

Ten years later I had occasion to ride an R75/6 for about 100 miles. Promptly sold my 750 Honda, picked up an R75/6 and have never looked back. Frankly, if it isn't a BMW, it isn't a motorcycle.

I might going along with the ugly part, post 05. However, have you seen the pre 05 RT and RS models? Especially the RT, just a beautiful piece of machinery.

Pick one up, spend a bunch of time and miles on it. It won't matter to you what it looks like!!

I have to agree with the chap who said BMWs are ugly.No one doubts their superb quality and reliability. That is not an issue. Those of you who tout these qualities are uncontested.But why do they have to make them so butt-ass ugly?? That was not always the case. The old ones were very handsome machines.Classics. But then some years ago uglyness took over and continues unabated today. BMWs are UGLY.

Let me guess, the other guy who commented rides a Harley which is fine if you want to take a toolbox with you wherever you go. I myself don't really like to work on motorcycles. I would rather be riding and no I don't own a BMW. Some people should keep their mouth sealed up and not look stupid.

When it comes to reliability BMW motorcycles are 2nd to none. Where performance is concerned, they do exactly what they where designed to do. Compare them to anything else the BMW will always come out on top and still be running when the others are sitting.

BMW riders like to ride and buy them to ride. The have the highest average yearly mile driven of any brand. They ride nice and keep riding nice but I guess if you need attention you drive a truck with red all over it.

Being honest is more of an excuse to be rude and rude does not do anything to help,

I am glad you have decided to become a more honest person but, while you are at it, you should take an honest look at why you decided to go to a place where used BMW's are being traded and rag on them.

Why are either of you BMW haters looking at this link in the first place? Instead of sharing, you should adopt a more positive attitude and be more respectful of others.

Since you apparently want the opinions of people who like BMW's, I think older standard bikes and cruisers have better lines than most BMW's. I think most sports bikes are far uglier than BMW's.

I own a BMW for two reasons. They have a proven track record and because I am 6' 3". They are the only make that is built for someone my size. By the way, total strangers frequently stop and say what a great looking bike I have.

We all know what they say about beauty. We also know what they say about opinions.

KTMs are odd looking, Harley's appearance sometimes leave a lot to be desired and all other brands occasionally come up with and market an ugly bike.

For a biker, you obviously do not appreciate motorcycles very much. I own a k1200rs and most of my riding buddies ride cruisers. We rag on each other a lot but usually agree that almost all bikes have some characteristic that makes them appealing.

As one of the oldest motorcycles companies continuosly in business since 1923 it is difficult to believe that so many of these "ugly" motorcycles have sold over the span of time they have been produced.

I believe that everybody's entitled to his own opinion. That's why people buy different brands and models every year and so many companies manage to stay in business.
