2000 Yamaha Venture Problems

I would appreciate it if someone could help me with my 2000 Yamaha Venture problems? I am experiencing the following issues with my 2000 Venture. I will be riding along and all of a sudden the motorcycle will just shut itself off.

The engine goes dead just as if I had hit the kill switch. There have been times when it came right back on and at other times I have had to cut the key off and then on for it to start right up. This generally happens when I try to start it cold first thing in the morning or strangely, after I have been riding a while so engine temperature doesn't seem to be a factor.

The motor shutdown doesn't happen when I hit a bump so the wiring probably isn't the problem and it doesn't seem to be temperature related. The O/D light stays on even after the engine cuts off so it is not losing its electrical power.

Does anyone have an idea what is causing it? If you can help me by suggesting a way that I can troubleshoot my 2000 Yamaha Venture Problems I would greatly appreciate it if you would email me your suggestions using the form provided by Strike Lightning Used Yamaha Motorcycles for Sale and PLEASE include your contact information so that I can communicate with you if necessary!

2000 Yamaha Venture cutting off Problems
by: peter

If it is not a bad key switch it must be a defective CDI (Computer digital ignition) commonly called the black box which controls the current throughout to keep the bike in ignition. I had this problem with a different bike and changed the CDI. see if this solves the problem and drop a feedback

good luck

Ignition

It's a bad ignition switch. The next time it dies, try wiggling the key while pressing the starter button.
