It ended up being a dirty ignition switch. I drilled out the tamper proof bolts, pulled the ignition switch and cleaned all the contacts. I have had no problems with it since. Thank you for your suggestions.

I had a similar problem with my 94 Venture. The problem was a bunch of grease and dirt in the kickstand interlock switch.

my 2000 harley did the same thing It could be the switch under the seat or it could be the gas line in the tank if it,s anything like my harley

I have having some problems with my 2000 Yamaha Venture and I wondered if someone could suggest a way to fix them.

What happens is that I can be riding and it will just cut off, just like you hit the kill switch. Sometimes the motorcycle will come right back on and sometimes I have to cut the key off then on and it will start right up.

This has happened to me when I try to start it first thing in the morning and when I have been riding the bike awhile.

I doesn't happen when I hit a bump (indicating a possible short) and it doesn't seem to be temperature related. The O/D light stays on even when the engine cuts off so it is not losing all electrical power.

Does anyone have an idea what is causing this to happen ?
