2003 Honda Shadow Ace Review
by: Anonymous

I don't know that I'm qualified to write an expert 2003 Honda Shadow Ace Review but from a rider's standpoint, I have a few opinions.

I bought my ACE used in April I bought this motorcycle so that my wife and I would have something fun to do on Sunday afternoons. I knew that a street bike was out of the question as tempting as they are but I didn't want to be a speed freak, just a weekend cruiser so that was ok.

What we needed was an affordable bike that would be a comfortable fit for my height (six feet tall), that looked cool and had enough power to not struggle with two riders.

We test drove several cruisers including the Suzuki Volusia, the Kawasaki Drifter and a Yamaha V-Star. The Drifter was too retro an appearance for my taste.

The Yamaha VStar is shaft driven but the engineers not liquid cooled which is a big deal since I live in Florida and will be riding a motorcycle all year in 80 degree heat and above.

The Suzuki Volusia was a fine looking motorcycle that had all of the characteristics that I was looking for including a shaft drive and liquid cooling and was priced in the $6k-$7k range.

However, problems with Suzuki motorcycles in the past had put a bad taste in my mouth and even though I heard they had fixed the problems and had improved performance I just couldn't make up my mind to buy one.

Getting back to my 2003 Honda Shadow Ace Review, the ACE Deluxe has an attractive retro look, clean lines, decent power (similar to all the rest), liquid cooling and handlebars designed to reduce the parachute effect. Plus, the bike has the Honda name that stands for dependability which played a big part in my decision-making process.

To modify the look I am going to lower the tail about 1.5" - 2", add a new motorcycle seat, sissy bar and install a set of saddlebags for road trips. That is another positive about Honda motorcycles, there are lots of accessories out there, in fact too many because I've already located $2000 in accessories (not including labor) that I plan to add eventually.

The exhaust pipes that came on the motorcycle sound fine with a low rumble but the roar is not that loud. The engine has good torque and tires fall in line with the retro look. I bought the bike for a very cheap price and since I purchased it the motorcycle blue book value has actually gone up but that might have something to do with people buying more motorcycles due to high gas prices.

My plans are to ride it for another year or two and then turn it over to my wife and buy myself a brand new VTX1800 Honda. That is pretty much it for my 2003 Honda Shadow Ace Review and the bottom line is that I recommend it for any biker who is looking for the same features as me and my wife.
